In 2003, Sakata Ornamentals Europe A/S (SOE) was formed as part of the global Sakata sales and research network.
Within the SOE area, being Europe, Middle East and Africa, SOE supports the sales & marketing activities of the locally operating Sakata sales & distribution companies as well as many independent distribution companies who work closely with developing Sakata genetics in the market.
Standard setting product range
SOE’s breeding facility, Danefeld Odense Ornamental Research Station, is the first Sakata flower breeding station on the Northern hemisphere. The research station focuses on the creation of highly innovative hybrids within selected pot and bedding plants, e.g.: Begonia, Pot-Gerbera and Primula as well as Pansy for cooler areas.
SOE breeds and globally markets the standard setting series Festival Pot-Gerbera, Emperor Begonia, Ambassador & Senator Begonia, Danova & Daniella Primula, SuperNova polyanthus, Prima malacoides, Astra Platycodon and Fortune tuberous Begonia.
In 2004, SOE acquired the Osteospermum Cape Daisy® breeding programme, thereby entering the vegetatively propagated Osteospermum market as a major player.
Quality Plugs
SOE considers plugs very important as a mean to support and promote Sakata’s genetics in the market. Frisa Planter A/S, the leading plug producer in Scandinavia through 40 years, was acquired by SOE in 2003. Frisa Planter A/S is marketing plugs directly in Scandinavia and through Sakata distribution network in Europe. In the UK, Sakata Ornamentals UK Ltd. is producing and marketing Sakata plugs primarily for the local market.
